My favourite places to Snowboard
I’ve been travelling around the world to different snow resorts since I was young and over the years, I have found myself forming favourites out of the resorts I have been to and the towns that home some of the most astronomical mountains. I am positive that we will all get through this second lockdown and hopefully be able to travel to the mountains this winter for some much-needed enjoyment and freedom.
It’s safe to say I haven’t been to all the snow resorts in the world, but in mainland Europe, my all-time favourite mountain to go Snowboarding is Laax, Switzerland. I have been Snowboarding in Laax most years since I was nine years old and found a love for it the first time I visited. It really is the most beautiful place. I go to the mountains to ride the snow parks predominantly, but Laax is one of the only places in the world where I could happily just ride the piste all day and have an amazing time. Each run is full of adventure, from riding through the trees, to epic powder laps on a snowy day and not to mention that the snow park is arguably one of the best in the world as well.
For many years, I also ventured across the seas to America and spent most December’s and many Christmas’ in Breckenridge, Colorado. Breckenridge holds a special place in my heart as it was the first place I visited outside of Europe. As well as the next-level Christmassy atmosphere, Breckenridge is full of friendly locals, a lovely American town and a mountain bursting with different runs and opportunity for fun.
Believe it or not, Australia is also high on my favourites list – A country you wouldn’t necessarily associate with the cold or snow. However, Perisher in New South Wales is a huge snow resort full of fun runs that hold a very different scenery to those in Europe, as you find yourself Snowboarding through gum trees and seeing parrots flying overhead. As well as this, the local town of Jindabyne is home to a very beautiful lake, perfect for refreshing ice baths after riding. I’ve been going to Perisher most summers in August and September as it is their winter, so it is a great place to visit if you are missing the snow in Britain’s summer.
Last but not least, New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever been to with the most dramatic sceneries. The South Island is home to many mountains to go Snowboarding on, but my favourite there is Cardrona due to the fun snow park which is great for freestyle snowboarders and skiers. Cardrona is situated halfway between Wanaka and Queenstown – both lovely places with magnificent lakes and lots to do after a long day on the mountain. Similarly, to Perisher, I always go there during the southern hemisphere’s winter.
These are just a few of my favourite mountains and resorts and I am excited to experience new places in the future.
